History

Combining the entrepreneurial spirit of a startup with the resources and reach of an established leader.

With a deep history of industry-changing solutions and a well-earned reputation for innovation, Vertiv and its partners continue to raise the bar in the areas of power, cooling, access and control, monitoring, and manageability.

We offer the expertise you need, the reliability you demand, and the resources only a global partner can provide. It’s allowed us to help lead the way in the evolution of technology from the mainframe to the cloud, as well as its expansion into every area of business.

But we didn’t become an industry leader overnight. In fact, while our product roots stretch back to the beginning of the information age, our organization began to take shape in 2000 when Emerson brought its critical infrastructure technologies together under the Network Power umbrella. Originally comprised of the Asco and Liebert brands, Emerson Network Power immediately established itself as a leading provider of power, thermal management and monitoring solutions for critical technologies in data centers, telecommunication networks, healthcare and commercial and industrial facilities.

Emerson invested in this business throughout the 21st century, acquiring the outside plant and power business of Marconi in 2004 to expand its presence in the telecommunications industry; Knurr in 2006 to strengthen its offering of enclosure systems; Avocent in 2009 to add software and remote management capabilities; and Chloride in 2010 to extend its range of power solutions, particularly for industrial applications. Throughout this period, the business continually developed new critical infrastructure solutions that delivered higher reliability, increased efficiency and enhanced flexibility for critical technologies.

Most recently, Emerson Network Power has been a pioneer in data center infrastructure management (DCIM) and integrated infrastructure. The Trellis DCIM platform was the first to use real-time data to enhance data center management and has been recognized as a leader in every DCIM Magic Quadrant published by Gartner. Emerson Network Power was also the first to offer an integrated row-based infrastructure solution and has worked with leading data center developers on the first fully modular freestanding data centers.

Now, the full range of solutions provided by Emerson Network Power, as well as the people that stand behind them, are part of Vertiv. As Vertiv, we're building on the success of our past while expanding our capabilities and commitment to support our mission of designing, building and servicing mission-critical technologies that drive possibility.
